In The Fight To Conserve Orangutans And Their Fore..

In the fight to conserve orangutans and their forest homes, restoring degraded forests is both an art and a science.
Our approach varies based on the area’s vegetation cover. We start by planting fast-growing pioneer tree species in open spaces like grasslands or areas with less than 40% tree cover. These trees quickly form a protective canopy essential for preventing soil erosion, suppressing invasive weeds, and creating a cool, shaded microclimate where native wildlife, including orangutans, can thrive.
As this initial layer establishes itself, we introduce the slower-growing, dipterocarp species. This species ensures the forest’s resilience and biodiversity over time, providing the complex structure and fruiting cycles that sustain orangutans and countless other species.
This science-based strategy isn’t just about planting trees. It is about rebuilding lasting ecosystems and bringing back what was originally there. Together, we’re ensuring these iconic forests remain a sanctuary for wildlife and a legacy for generations to come.
