Video Circulating Six Dogs Left Unattended At Groo..

VIDEO CIRCULATING: SIX DOGS LEFT UNATTENDED AT GROOMER’S, ONE SLIPPED OFF THE TABLE AND WAS FATALLY STRANGLED BY LEASH

The SPCA was alerted to the troubling video by a concerned member of the public. The case has since been escalated to the authorities for their action. We understand that the pet owner has also reported the groomer to the relevant authorities.

In Singapore, there are currently no licensing requirements for pet grooming services. While there are some minimum standards specified under the Code of Animal Welfare (for the Pet Industry), failure to comply is not considered an offence. While breaches of the code can be used to support prosecution or enforcement action, the resulting penalties may not serve as effective deterrents.

Here are some ways you can ensure that your pet is under responsible care:

1. Transparency: Choose groomers who let you observe the grooming process.

2. Safety First: Ensure there are safety measures in place, such as staff present when animals are tethered.

3. Reputation: Rely on word-of-mouth recommendations from trusted sources.

The big picture: There is an urgent need for stronger legislation in animal welfare and the SPCA has been actively lobbying the government on multiple issues to better protect our animals, including upholding high standards of animal welfare within the pet industry.
