Fearing The Worst – BBQ Pit Found At Industrial Area

Hi, it’s JoTong here.

Last weekend both Uncle Wong and I were searching high and low for Mama Jalan 8 whom we had spayed on 12th December 2023. We had not seen her for almost a week. Mama Jalan 8 was an abandoned female dog and she was a very skittish dog. She is also a lonesome dog and would only hide under the same car everyday. She also did not mix with other dogs in the same area where she roams.

After almost a week, on Wednesday 10th July 2024 evening, Uncle Wong saw her coming out for food but he noticed that her neck/head was swollen and something might be around her neck. Worried that he might have seen it incorrectly, Uncle Wong called me to have a look together with him the very next day to confirm whether there is something around her neck. But too bad Mama Jalan 8 did not come out to eat. We looked for her every evening after that but she was nowhere to be seen. On Sunday 14th July 2024 morning while searching for Mama Jalan 8, Uncle Wong heard a faint dog howling sound coming from nearby. He then followed the sound and found a male dog tied to a tree (see photo attached). Uncle Wong untied him and dismantled all the strings and iron wire from the tree. Uncle Wong then walked further up towards a vacant land and found a BBQ look-alike place. He quickly called me and when I reached there, I took a few photos and we asked a few foreigners who walked past whether they had seen anyone or know of anyone who may have set up the pit there. They answered they did not know anything about the trap or BBQ pit.

We suspect that some foreigners trap dogs for their meat. Both of us think there maybe a lot more other dogs whom may have been trapped using the same method and killed for their meat.

Dogs and cats hold a specific place in Malaysian society as companion animals and eating their meat is offensive to Malaysian cultural values.

We do hope our government could look into the existing laws and enact regulations to ban this inhumane and brutal act.
