Part of our Communications team went on an excursion to learn about the Interceptor and the log booms installed in some parts of the Klang river today!
DYK that we have two Interceptors anchored in our Klang river to collect the trash that ends up in the river, which mostly consists of plastic waste? Every two days, a total of 6 tonnes of waste is collected from both Interceptors. On average, every month 1,000 tonnes of waste is collected from the Interceptors and log booms installed along the Klang river. Can you imagine the impact it has on the ecosystems along and in the river?
Rivers are not only an important source of freshwater and wildlife habitat, but also the livelihoods of communities involved in fishing and agriculture.
Thank you to Selangor Maritime Gateway for educating us this morning! The good news is that they have seen a reduction in the waste collected since 2016, but that doesn’t mean we can rest on our laurels. Manage and reduce your plastic consumption, keep recycling and don’t litter. Together Possible!
