A Visit From The Stray Dog Hero Of Koh Samui, Nial..

A visit from the stray dog hero of Koh Samui, Niall Harbison🙌🏻

We recently had the pleasure of welcoming Niall Harbison to our shelter in Phuket. Niall, a humble expat living in Koh Samui, has diligently fed the street dogs on the Thai island for over three years. In January last year, he made the decision to commit himself full-time to this noble work.

Every day, Niall prepares around 200 kilograms of fresh food for over 800 street dogs with the help of local volunteers. However, his commitment goes beyond sustenance. He is now providing shelter, arranging sterilisation and vaccination, providing veterinary care at local clinics, administering tick and flea medication and ensuring the general welfare of the dogs on the island too.

Asked what motivates him, Niall said “For me, it’s the fact that some simple actions can directly change the life of an animal. Some basic medication or sterilising can quickly ease suffering and put them out of pain. To do that or even to rehome a dog is the ultimate feeling of doing something worthwhile.” These simple actions fuel his determination to achieve his ultimate goal – ease the suffering of street dogs the world over 💪🏻

Niall didn’t visit us alone; he brought along Penny, a sweet Poodle mix rescued from an abusive owner. Devastatingly, their beatings had left Penny with a badly injured leg. With limited facilities in Koh Samui, Penny underwent surgery at our hospital and is recovering steadily. Once fully recovered, she will be collected by Niall who will continue to provide her with loving care.

During his visit, Niall also got to meet Mirko, a two-legged dog with whom he formed an immediate bond. To help her find a home, he made this wonderful video: https://www.instagram.com/p/CsQ9HH5gkc7/
