Young animal lover raises over $5,000 USD for Soi Dog Foundation!
15-year-old student Abbie Pongpat has blown us away by donating a staggering 174,321 THB – or 5,062 USD – to Soi Dog, all raised through her self-made fundraising project.
Abbie was inspired to start the project after adopting soi dog Momoshi from us in March. Momoshi arrived at the shelter as a puppy with a badly wounded leg that had to be amputated. Once recovered, she found a wonderful home with Abbie and her family in Bangkok.
Wanting to help more homeless animals like Momoshi, Abbie launched two fundraising initiatives: one for her Thai friends and family to whom she sold gift baskets containing beauty products and snacks brought back from the USA by her father; and another for her friends back in the USA to whom she sold raffle tickets, with the grand prize being a collection of unique Thai gifts carefully selected from local markets. She received further donations on top by people who wanted to reward her compassion and commitment.
“I’m so proud that I can help street dogs and cats in my own way,” she said on her visit our shelter in Phuket to make her donation. We’re proud of you too, Abbie!
A huge thank you to Abbie, her supportive family and everyone who donated towards her project. We are thrilled to see the younger generation in Thailand becoming more aware of animal welfare and taking action however they can.
