This next small, soft-shelled turtle is commonly known as the Malayan Softshell Turtle (Dogania subplana). It is the only species in this genus.
It has a proportionally large head and the carapace is flat, and has straight sides. This species inhabits swift-flowing streams with clear water and a rock or gravel bottom in Thailand and Malaysia, but in Java, it has been reported from muddy pools. Its diet consists of fruits and aquatic invertebrates such as prawns, crabs, snails and fish. It produces 3-7 eggs per clutch.
Malayan softshell turtles are carnivorous and practice ambush feeding.
