Writing Emails, Letters, Meeting Minutes Reports, ..

Writing emails, letters, meeting minutes reports, or proposals; preparing work plans and filing: all these may sound simple or a part of our day-to-day job. However, for the fishing communities we work with, these tasks are challenging.

In May, our team in Sarawak held a basic administrative and bookkeeping training for the Rajang-Belawai-Paloh Community Participatory Committee, who are mainly fishermen and a handful of retirees as well as community leaders. They will be assisting WWF-Malaysia in a project on mangrove forests restoration and conservation of the Irrawaddy dolphin.

The workshop was held in Sibu from 10 to 12 May. Participants picked up administrative knowledge and skills, so they can independently manage the project and generate reports.

What an effort by this fishing community to pick up a new yet unorthodox skill of swapping their fishing nets for pen and paper! Let’s give them a big #shoutout for their commitments and efforts in protecting mangroves and dolphins.
