This year, we managed to collect 668 River terrapin eggs from 3 riverbanks in the Kemaman River.
The first nest was encountered on 25th January, when our Terrapin Guardians went to the riverbank to set up camp. The last nest was recorded on 11th March.
The 2022 river terrapin nesting season lasted for 46 days. It is the longest season we have recorded since we initiated this conservation project in 2021! The second longest season was recorded in 2012, with 39 days.
The eggs are currently being incubated in the hatchery in Kg. Pasir Gajah, Kemaman, Terengganu. This morning, we performed a nest check, and loosened the sand in the nests.
We’re excited to meet the hatchlings!
