WELFARE FOR BIRDS KEPT AS PETS – CASE 1

As our report released last month (https://bit.ly/ACRESBirdReport2022) highlighted concerns with recommendations, we continue to receive feedback from concerned members of public about bird keeping conditions. Code Of Animal Welfare for Pet owners does include this guideline: The cage should be large enough so that your pet’s tail and outspread wings do not touch the sides of the cage.

We have tried our best to reach out to the owner to engage, which was not successful. A case has been filed with @NParksBuzz for follow up action, as it does breach the Code of Animal Welfare for pet owners (for birds).

Our report recommended phasing out use of such small cages for birds (like this spotted dove whose wingspan is >40cm and length ~30cm).
