KEEP CALM. DO NOT ABANDON YOUR PETS

Hong Kong’s decision to cull hamsters after 11 of them tested positive to the COVID-19 virus has caused some anxiety among some pet guardians.

The SPCA has been closely monitoring developments while keeping up to date with information from health authorities such as the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE), World Health Organisation (WHO) and our local Animal & Veterinary Service (AVS).

The primary mode of transmission of the virus remains human to human.

“There is no justification in taking measures which may compromise the welfare of companion animals.”—OIE

As most domesticated animals will not survive outside of a sheltered home, we urge all pet guardians to always uphold their commitments to their pets. A pet is for life and as pet guardians, we have a duty of care, to provide them with a safe and loving home. 💙

#SPCASingapore would like to remind the public that abandonment is a crime and is a chargeable offence.
