When we initiated our community empowerment initiative in January 2019, it didn’t pick up speed immediately.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

The response from the women, while encouraging, did not immediately translate into something ground-breaking. There were talks of turning new skills into business ventures, but those remain as they were, talks.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

And then COVID-19 happened.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

We approached them again, and this time, they responded very favourably. We got down to work, product after product, and we are proud to have supported the women (and the local communities, by extension) at a time when they needed help the most.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

But we could not have done this without YOU. Your bulk orders have enabled us to continuously engage these women. Your purchases have demonstrated to the women that their skills are appreciated. And together, we have shown them that they are capable to earning an income to help support their families.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

The Turtle Conservation Society of Malaysia was established in October 2011. The aim of the society is to bring about the recovery of depleted wild populations of turtles, with particular reference to freshwater turtles, in Malaysia through partnerships with like-minded organizations, individuals and local communities as well as through its own programs.
