Why have we locked our dogs-up and put them under quarantine after exposure to puppies infected with distemper eventhough the MDDB doggos have all been vaccinated?

It is because when your dog is vaccinated, it does not mean it cannot be infected. However, the vaccination has made them immune to a flare-up, so in the event they have been exposed, they will not be affected adversely.

However, they can carry the virus and pass it on to unvaccinated dogs.

Distemper is air borne, hence infection can take place very quickly.

Hence, putting them under quarantine and treatinh them will eradicate the ‘silent’ infection as well as prevent exposure to street dogs that may be passing by or people who may unwittingly carry the virus.

Sunlight kills the distemper virus but the rainy season is a boon for the infection to spread.

So be cautious even if your dogs have been vaccinated.

MDDB's main activities revolve around rescuing dogs from the local council pounds as well as off the streets. Once they have been rescued, the dogs are vaccinated and neutered before being put up for adoption.
