World Turtle Day 23 May. It Should Be Turtle World..

WORLD TURTLE DAY 23 MAY

It should be turtle world day really, them being one of the oldest reptile groups on planet Earth. Sad to say many turtles face threats from habitat loss, wildlife trade, poaching for eggs and consumption of meat.

So, please can you pledge today – one thing to help turtles directly?

Turtle soup remains to be a popular dish in Singapore, and only a small portion of this demand is met by wild-caught 20,000 Asiatic soft-shelled turtles from Indonesia to be imported alive to Singapore’s slaughterhouses and wet markets. Others are reportedly imported from “captive-bred” sources.

If the demand reduces, the wild harvesting, suffering in captive breeding facilities will reduce too. This applies for all other animals who end up on our plates too.

Please can you take one step forward today in #Singapore on World Turtle Day to say no to #TurtleSoup?
