We Are Nine Years Old!

It was on this day, exactly nine years ago, that I stood in front of a congregation at our local temple, explaining the importance of getting street animals neutered so that the sad event of Pulau Ketam will not happen in our towns.
Holding only a cardboard box, I hoped that we would be able to raise enough funds to help get at least 10 animals neutered in that year. Every little bit counts. Every animal neutered is many animals saved.
That was AnimalCare’s humble beginnings on 31st May 2009.
News spread amongst friends and support poured in. In that one year, we managed to help 660 animals get neutered and we also sponsored many medical cases and gave out petfood donation.
There has been no stopping ever since then.
We needed funds, so we sold tshirts, petfood and many kinds of merchandise. My mother and I sewed patchwork blankets, bags, and held auctions. Friends helped by sourcing items for us to sell and to auction. And thanks to everyone’s efforts and participation, we managed to raise enough funds to sustain the increasing number of applications each month.
Today, after nine years, the number of animals helped has exceeded 12,000!
Sometimes, the work is just too much and so overwhelming that I wish I could take a break from it all, especially when I fall ill. But I’ve since learnt to pace myself; to slow down a little whenever necessary so that I don’t burn out. And, more importantly, so that at the very least, our Neutering Fund can go on, without stopping, as there is still a dire need to keep getting street animals neutered, everywhere in Malaysia.
When the going gets tough, it is the support of friends and well-wishers that helps a lot. I would like to take this opportunity to express our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has supported us, in good times and bad. Some of you have been with us, following our work, supporting us in all kinds of ways, for many years now. Some have come and gone, but some have stayed. We thank you all – our friends from the past and present.
AnimalCare will not be here forever, but the seed in the hearts of kind humans who believe that we have a role to play to help street animals, has to be planted and nurtured. Please help us spread this word. We hope you will continue to support our work as well as the work of other organisations that are helping street animals in whatever ways possible.
To all our dear friends, supporters, volunteers and well-wishers, thank you so, so much!
