Tigers Abscesses (Day 5)
I took a photo this morning and sent it to the vet. He was very pleased with Tiger’s progress so there was no need to take Tiger to the clinic today.
Now that the wounds are healing, Tiger must be feeling much better. He goes upstairs at night and sleeps at my foot on the bed. And he also relaxes on the sofa.
Tiger is absolutely cooperative when it comes to eating his medicines and also during the wound-cleaning sessions. He even lets me put on the e-collar without so much as the slightest hint of complaint.
The flushing is done with saline first, followed by diluted povidone iodine. Then, concentrated povidone iodine is dabbed onto the wounds. As an additional protection, an ointment (Polybamycin) is applied twice daily. This protects the wound from flies, just in case.
Tiger is on Clavamox (antibiotics) and also Transfer Factor and Danzen (papase enzyme). The latter two are “extras”.
We are extremely thankful that he is healing well and relatively quickly, given that he is FIV+. The vet did say on the first day that a normal cat might take a week to heal but an FIV+ cat could take anything from 2-4 weeks. And to think that on the first day, there was a fistula (tunnel under the skin) connecting the two open wounds but the very next day, the tunnel had already closed up.
However, the soft masses on the side of the body are still there. We have no idea what they might be. On Saturday, we will have to go see the vet to assess if Tiger needs to continue on the antibiotics.
All drying up.
Don’t look at my wounds, please!!
