HUGE RELIEF AT BOSNIAN DOG POUND
Many months ago we first told you about the dogs at the Hresa pound who were eating only bread and other scraps only three days a week. We’ve been able to take over feeding them daily thanks to you.
“The Hresa dogs would not eat if it were not for Harmony Fund,” volunteer Debbie Ryan explains.
We’ve also completed repairs to the drainage system which was causing mud and waste to back up into the dogs’ kennels during rain.
The broken pipes have been replaced with new ones and the grounds are now clean and habitable for the dogs again. Gravel has also been applied in areas that typically get very muddy.
This pound is typical of the region. It’s stark and staffed by a handful of government employes who collect a salary without actually caring for the dogs. But volunteers Lela and Bosco take turns being there daily now to give the dogs a better quality of life. We’re also been able to provide Bosco with a small salary for his work. Lela has a full time job to support herself.
“Lela and Bosco take the dogs out of the kennels to play,” Debbie said. “It’s the only time they get out of their kennels.”
Two dogs at full-term preganancy were dumped at the gates of this pound last month and both were taken into boarding facilities to nurse their puppies. They and a few other dogs pulled from the pound will soon be joining adoptive families abroad.
Thank you everyone for allowing us to provide a far higher standard of care for the dogs here who would gladly thank you themselves if they could.
