A Reduction Of Neutering Aid Rates In 2017
Tweet |
As we have reported at the end of every month, we have been running on reserves since April 2015. It has almost been two years now and our reserves are depleting rapidly.
We also have a number of big-time feeders who do a large volume of neutering cases each week and they have continued to claim from our funds very regularly. We hope these big-timers with a consistent large volume of cases will find alternative sources of funds as we are unable to keep providing so much for them on a weekly basis.
We have had in the past, a few applicants whom we had helped but have subsequently become independent on their own with their own sources of funds. We are happy to have lent a hand in getting them started on their noble efforts and we applaud them for being able to stand on their own now, setting a great example for new feeders to follow.
Every week, we get new feeders writing in to apply for our aid. This is, of course, a good sign as it is the objective of AnimalCare to see the CNRM programme being practised widely. We are eager to help these newcomers get started, but if the big-time feeders keep applying with their large volume of cases, it limits our ability to extend help to the newcomers.
For the second half of 2016, monthly donations were only sufficient to cover 50% of the claims, with the other 50% coming from our reserves. When our reserves finally run out, we would have to depend solely on monthly donations. The number of cases we can help will then be reduced drastically.
Therefore, in order to keep the Fund running, we see no other way except to reduce the quantum of our neutering aid, effective 1st January 2017. Our current rate of RM100 per cat and RM150 per dog is comparable to the rescue rate of many vets, so we have actually been giving a full sponsorship for many. With the increase of claims and rapidly depleting funds, we can no longer sustain this rate. A reduction has to be implemented and this reduction will reflect a more “cost-sharing” basis between AnimalCare and the applicants.
We have already started informing applicants about this upcoming reduction since 1st Dec 2016 as they write in to apply for our aid as some of them may not follow our blogposts. It will also give them time to prepare for this change.
It is our hope that the new generation of applicants in 2017 will see AnimalCare as a starter fund for their CNRM programme, and they will become financially independent after some time.
We empathise that some existing applicants will be adversely affected by this reduction, but we are relieved that most of them have expressed that they understand the difficulties that we face. The general consensus is that “some aid is still better than no aid at all”. This is precisely what we are trying to do – to still offer some aid and to stretch this aid as long as we can.
The new rates will be announced once they are finalised.
To all applicants, past, present and future: We thank you for your kind understanding. Please know we are doing our best to help you.
To all our supporters and donors, we thank you very much for making it possible for us to help so many street animals in these seven-and-a-half years. With your support, we hope to continue doing this in 2017 and more importantly, to grow a bigger community of responsible practitioners of CNRM for the years to come.
Thank you.
