A Note from The Chairperson:

Dear ALL Animal Lovers & Friends,

We understand that the Public is very much concerned with our shelter current situation, especially the welfare of the animals since we have been put under the spotlight for the past month for not doing enough to care for the animals under our roof. No doubt, we do admit that the shelter is in need of a reform and rest assured that we are taking precaution steps to ensure that it will be done to create a more ideal shelter for the lost, injured, abused and unwanted animals.

We hereby would like to share with you some of the actions we have taken as well as will be taking to improve the quality of care provided to the animals in the shelter:

1. Segregating the animals by gender (male/female) unless they have been sterilized.

Action Due Date: Already Under Implementation

2. Segregating the mama dogs/cats with their new-borns from the existing dogs/cats.

Action Due Date: Already Under Implementation

3. Allocate a sick bay for the sick animals.

Action Due Date: Already Under Implementation

Note: Our shelter currently consists of 54 dog kennels, 5 big catteries & 8 quarantine rooms.

4. The shelter shall now on only accept dogs and cats that has undergone basic screening test, flea treatment, given de-wormers and standard vaccinations by recognized vets.

Action Due Date: With Immediate Effect

5. To solve the existing staffing problem by hiring additional 3 more caretakers on top of the existing 5 to help with the workload e.g. feeding, cleaning and etc..

Action Due Date: By January 2017

6. Engage a part/fulltime vet to perform spaying and provide routine medical check-up for the animals in the shelter.

Action Due Date: By January 2017 (at the moment, we will have vet coming over on request basis to check on the animals)

7. The shelter shall also be more selective in accepting animals from the local council. Sick animals will not be accepted to prevent the illnesses to be spread to the healthy ones.

Action Due Date: With Immediate Effect

Our shelter definitely welcome the Publics involvement to make these progress possible. Your feedback and opinion, too matter to us but please, maintain a positive attitude at all times. Let us focus on specific problems and dont expect Rome to be built in a day.

If you have any questions or feedback, feel free to contact me personally at 012-5523447 or write-in to us at feedback@spcaseberangperai.org.

Thank you.

Yours Truly,

Madam Tan Kah Chuah

(Chairperson)

SPCA Seberang Perai

The SPCA Seberang Perai is a society registered in September 2005. Our primary aim is to reduce the population of stray animals or possibly a zero stray population in a humane manner. With lesser strays or no strays at all, the loving value of animals will be greatly increased and you can be sure that humans will shower more love for their pets and be responsible pet owners. The problem should not only be shouldered by our Society as the public must also understand the urgent need to control the pet population and give their whole-hearted support to all our projects for the undertaking to be successful. Then we will achieve a clean and hygienic environment for the community. As a no killing organization, we are embarking on a two-prong approach towards the problem i.e public education and sterilization of the stray animals.
