UPCYCLED ENRICHMENT FOR RESCUED TORTOISES

UPCYCLED ENRICHMENT FOR RESCUED TORTOISES

We recently found a discarded metal chair frame. It was in good condition, and we hit on the idea of upcycling it into a climbing structure for the tortoises at the ACRES Wildlife Rescue Centre! This short video explains the project. It took us about 30-40 minutes to put the structure together. In the end it turned out to be much more than just a climbing frame! The tortoises can climb and feed on hanging enrichments. They can also use the bottom part as a shady spot in which to rest.

We need to continuously come up with such projects to ensure that the rescued animals in our care are provided with stimulating environments with plenty of enrichment. These will allow them to exhibit and improve their foraging skills and their physical fitness.
