Happy New Year, everyone!

Let us start 2016 with a paw-sitive story of Specky, a 15-year-old Jack Russell Terrier whose case we were alerted to, several months ago, by a concerned member of public who observed the dog was leashed outside his owner’s flat for most part of the day.

Having spoken to his owners, our inspectors found out that Specky’s circumstances were a recent development, due to the main caregiver (a mother of two young children) having to care for an elderly parent with dementia. Notwithstanding that Specky was leashed outside the apartment, he was, otherwise, found in good health. Our inspector spoke to the owner who decided to surrender Specky to the SPCA, so that a new home could be found. Specky was subsequently adopted by Ms Geraldine and her family.

“We do not think that it is a big deal adopting a senior dog. In fact, I feel like we have ‘cheated’ a little, by adopting Specky, avoiding the puppy dramas. He is easy-going and has settled well into our home,” says Ms. Geraldine of her new forever friend.

If you have adopted a pet from SPCA, we’d love to hear from you. Email us at education@spca.org.sg with your story and photo(s).
