When Ryen Blaschke and Shaina Fishman were introduced they immediately decided to collaborate on a project to bring awareness to cat rescue. She is a commercial photographer specializing in animals and Ryen is a fashion and wardrobe stylist. Both of them are actively involved in animal rescue and advocacy.
They wanted to create a light-hearted series featuring rescue cats and kittens that are up for adoption. With so much exposure on dog rescue they wanted to bring attention to the much-overlooked topic of cat rescue. Approximately 3.4 million cats enter animal shelters every year in the United States.
Customized hats were handmade by Ryen and then shot by Shaina on rescued cats from Brooklyn Animal Action, in the homes of volunteers fostering the cats. All cats deserve a loving home, dont you think? The ongoing project encompasses popular hats such as the one worn by Pharrell at the Grammys and timeless pieces such as Robin hoods woodsman hat.
Do you often look at stories and photos of homeless animals and feel helpless? If you’ve got a decent camera and some moderate skill, there’s your answer. Contact your nearby animal shelters and rescuers and volunteer to photograph their adoptable pets. It makes a big difference to have a captivating adoption photo, with or without clever props!
And of course, if you want to adopt a cat in Malaysia (with or without a hat), http://PetFinder.my is a great place to start your search.
