SATURDAY CRIME NIGHT EMPLOYEE OF SINGAPOREAN COMPANY CHARGED FOR SMUGGLING ENDANGERED AND EXOTIC FISH
Early this year, Mr Alex Chang was caught smuggling both endangered and exotic fish out of Singapore. He was caught by customs officers when he landed in Australia.
Found concealed in his bag were 20 plastic bags containing live and dead endangered fish worth SGD 247,000. Around 26 of those fish found were listed under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES). The fish were also found to be micro chipped, which is a common practice for exotic and rare species in certain parts of Asia.
The fish would probably have suffered during the smuggling ordeal, and many lost their lives.
