MEET BIG AND BEAUTIFUL VENILLA!
About two weeks ago, we shared a post about Bloodshort, a rescued blood python who is the second heaviest snake at the ACRES Wildlife Rescue Centre (AWRC).
Today, wed like to introduce the largest snake in our care: Venilla, an albino Burmese python. Many of you might know her story and some of you may have seen her. Venilla is the largest animal at the AWRC. Believe it or not, someone probably kept her as a pet here in Singapore at some point in time, before she was released or escaped.
Venilla weighs in at almost 50 kilograms and isnt far off from hitting 4m in length. Burmese pythons are amongst the largest snakes in the world. The other large species are the rock python, the amethystine python, our native reticulated python and the anacondas.
Venilla was recently given a new enclosure with plenty of natural substrates and features such logs, which she can climb and explore. Well be adding more plants soon to give the enclosure an even more natural feel. Being an albino, Venilla does not stand any chance of being released back into the wild. As such, we continue to brainstorm and find ways to keep improving her enclosure.
Venilla is yet again another clear example why wild animals do not make suitable pets. Wild animals require specialised care and, in this case, the animals can grow very big and will need new and bigger enclosures as they grow.
