On Daffodils Trail

As you know, Daffodil is completely at home now, after straying the streets for more than 10 years before we moved into this neighbourhood in 2011.
Rosie was the first to invite herself into our compound. This was followed by her brother, Ginger, who came in to ask for help – he had been bitten by Mr Quack and the sore was turning gangrenous. So, Ginger came to the patio and sat inside the cage. How smart is that, right?
So I took Ginger to the vet and he had to be caged and on antibiotics for 2 weeks. That’s when Daffodil started coming, to visit Ginger daily. And finally, we managed to get Daffodil spayed and the rest is history!
From then on, Daffodil came for meals daily but was very wary of humans. Can’t blame her, according to her feeder at the playground, when Daffodil was a little kitten, her whole family was captured by the animal-catchers and only she escaped. So I suppose that is why Daffodil had grown very wary of humans and that is also why her feeder could not catch her to be spayed for the 10 years that she was being fed at the playground.
From the patio, Daffodil took her time to move into the house. Slowly, she grew more comfortable and sat on chairs and sofas. Then she let us pat her.
Now…
She makes frequent trips upstairs.
Without fail, when I come out of the bathroom, Daffodil would be there. She makes it a point to go upstairs to accompany me and gives me a sweet welcome when I come out of the bathroom. And now, she even takes another cat with her when she goes up. So, sometimes I would see Daffodil+Rosie, sometimes Daffodil+Ginger. Or Daffodil+Heidi and even Daffodil+Zurik! Vincent operates alone. He’s been relegated from the alpha to a foot soldier now. Poor Vincent. But cat politics is such that we humans cannot interfere. Ginger is the alpha now, which makes Daffodil the “Queen Mother”, I suppose? Vincent guards the porch by sitting atop the car. It’s not that bad being a foot soldier and the chief sentry. At least he has a mission – to guard the house at the frontlines – the porch. Vincent is extremely loyal. He is a good soldier.
Here’s Daffodil coming down the stairs again.
We have been wondering what she does upstairs until…
…we found her sleeping on our bed!
So that’s what her upstairs trips are all about! She’s learning what the house is all about and what you are supposed to do, and where. How cute!
Of course everyone wants to go into Bunny’s Place. The PatioCats think it’s paradise in there.
Our Queen Mother, Daffodil.
An even after 5 long years, she still looks after Ginger and Rosie.
Mother of the Year!
P.S. Mr Zurik is back for good now. We think he has some plan brewing again because he’s been coming into the house in the middle of the night and everyone else goes to the porch while he’s inside.
