80% OF SINGAPOREANS FEEL THAT ANIMAL PROTECTION IS IMPORTANT TO THEM
This was discovered in a survey commissioned by ACRES and conducted independently by Millward Brown earlier this year.
So, how do we go about protecting animals who have no voice of their own?
Simple. We can be their voice!
Dozens of celebrities condemned the wearing of fur in a 2012 campaign, with many baring all in a strong anti-fur statement. Pamela Anderson boycotted Uggs boots after realising they were made of skin. Stella McCartney – a vocal opponent of the fur trade – designs ‘animal-free’ clothing lines. Charlize Theron and Natalie Imbruglia lend their voices to anti-fur campaigns, whilst Simon Cowell educates consumers about the cruelties of the fur trade. Maggie Q even managed to convince the production team in the film Three Kingdoms to replace all real fur with faux alternatives. Ricky Gervais is a long time ambassador for putting an end to cosmetic animal testing, as is Spice Girl Melanie C, whose poignant message was, ‘I’m sure that, like me, you agree it is completely unnecessary for animals to go through pain and suffering just to produce new cosmetics. Let’s take the cruelty out of beauty.”
Celebrity endorsement for animal-friendly messages is important for getting the word out to the public. But we don’t have to be celebrities to make a difference!
We can protect our world and animals for future generations, and end animal cruelty, simply by being conscious of our everyday choices as consumers.
Collective demand decides the fate of each animal. When you choose products that are not made from animal parts – whether from farmed or wild-caught animals – and support brands that do not test their products on animals, you will help save animals from suffering and stop the needless loss of innocent lives.
The choices you make today can save many individual animals from suffering and save species from extinction. Make a wise choice now when you add items to your shopping cart, and generations to come will thank you for it. Not to mention the animals.
