A MIRACULOUS ESCAPE

One can only imagine what was going through Boonrods mind, as just yards away he witnessed what can only be described as a scene from hell.

Dogs he had seen alive only minutes before were now hung and skinned (probably while still alive) before his eyes. He must have known he was next.

As police rushed in to the butchers premises on the outskirts of Chiang Mai, northern Thailand, the first thing they saw was a collar hanging from makeshift gallows. Below that, the remains of all those they were too late to save.

BOONROD: THE ONE THAT GOT AWAY

The police, accompanying Soi Dogs undercover team, were taking action as a result of Thailands first ever Animal Welfare law, introduced just months before.

This law came into force as a result of the overwhelming number of Soi Dog supporters who signed our petition against the dog meat trade. Because of those signatures, this dog called Boonrod (meaning survivor in Thai) at that moment became the luckiest dog in the world.

We desperately need YOUR support to end this trade and save more dogs like Boonrod. Will you please CLICK THIS LINK to help? http://bit.ly/Save_Dogs_From_Butchers

When Boonrod was released from the butchers cage, he was shaking with fear. Even when he arrived at our shelter, he continued to show signs of the trauma he suffered – wanting attention but still fearful of what might happen to him.

Today, after weeks of rehabilitation, Boonrod has learned to trust again, and is once more the happy dog he was before his ordeal began.

Without YOUR support, Boonrod would have met the same fate as the other dogs. As butchers and smugglers continue to change tactics and move further under ground we will meet with our suppression unit and senior police and military to look at expanding our teams. We can only do this with YOUR support. The law is now on our side but the traders are clever and corruption is a major issue.

Public awareness billboards are now playing a huge part in the rescue of dogs like Boonrod. The billboards offer rewards to citizens who report any suspected dog meat trade activity and to date, thousands of dogs have been rescued.

YOU can play your part by funding a billboard at this link: http://bit.ly/Save_Dogs_From_Butchers

Boonrod is now available for adoption and a new life. To give Boonrod a home, please email cristy@soidog.org
