Often times we received cases of abandonment. Owners surrender their pets to our shelter, given many reasons, such as they are migrating, moving to an apartment or no longer have the time. Regardless of the reasons, we tried our best to take in and put them up for adoption, hoping they will again get the chance to find a better home. However, we often warned the owners that their pets may not be able to survive through the ordeal of being abandoned as they might fall into depression after being separated with their owners and will eventually die. But most of the time, the owners will take it for granted that their pets are strong enough to pull through and would hear none of what we said.
Today, we happened to encounter the most notorious owner, ever! Well, it all begins when someone surrendered this Golden Retriever to our shelter, saying she was found near a Chinese temple. As she was wearing a license tag, we thought that we could trace the owner and let the dog reunite with her family again.
We managed to get the owner details this morning and immediately called to inform him that his lost pet is now in our shelter and to please come claim her out. And yes, the owner came with his wife, with the intention to claim her out…so we thought. But at one glance, the owner heartlessly commented that his pet look a mess and ugly. Yes, today may not be her perfect hair day, but what could one expect after the dog was left straying on the streets for God knows how long?! Indeed, the dog that still recognized her owner was wagging her tail happily, looking at his owner, probably thinking in her mind that at last she gets to go back to her home sweet home. Unfortunately, owner refused to have her back and requested our shelter to take care of her until she is all healthy and pretty again. OK, but there will be a price to pay. At this point, he says he will need to discuss with his wife about the payment and so out he went. Believe it or not, what happened next is a real humiliation to human species. The owner just sped off in his car without turning back!
Though disheartened by the act, we were glad that we did not just give the pet back to him and allow him to dump her elsewhere. At least, the pet is now safe in our hands. And just when we thought we want to put this experience behind us, the wife of the owner called and requested us to give her a healthy small puppy in exchange of her Golden Retriever. Excuse me?! We think that no human with the right sense would agree to such a condition. Shame on her to even make such a suggestion! When we refused and explained to her that instead of getting a new puppy, she should consider taking back her pet and send her to the vet for a check up and basic grooming, but what she said next shock us even more! She asked us to just PUT TO SLEEP the dog for good. Wow! Speechless…really, we are out of words.
As a shelter promoting no-kill, we will hear none of her nonsense. We pledge to ensure that this dog find a loving and caring home, unlike her previous evil owner. Any genuine adopter who think he/she can give this goldie the perfect home, please contact 012-4818123.
Note: We usually do not reveal owner’s details but this is an exceptional case as we do not hope to see other pets’ end of with the same consequences. Do not allow this person to buy/adopt your furkid. He and his wife have proven to be irresponsible and unreasonable owners.
