MESSAGE FROM RESCUERS IN UKRAINE’S WAR ZONE
“Nowadays because of military situation in our city all your donations are spent on food for the dogs (on dry food and oatmeal)” Vita Bryzgalova explains from the front gate of the shelter in Donetsk. “Every day we need about 100 kg of oatmeal and 140 kg of dry food for the dogs. There are about 900 dogs in the shelter at this moment.”
“In Yasinovataya, a town in Donetsk region, there’s a factory that used to have an animal shelter that was housing several thousand dogs some time ago,” Vita continues. “The shelter is now abandoned just like the factory itself. There are, however, about 200 dogs who still remain on the factory grounds. We have received information that this shelter does not have any employees left and the dogs are starving; some have shrapnel wounds because the area is now close to the combat zone. We were able to transport 20 bags of dry food for the dogs and bring 15 dogs to our shelter. We didn’t have time to catch more dogs. We were there with the military convoy who gave us only 40 minutes, and bullets were flying all around when the driver was leaving the town with the dogs.”
Efforts will continue to try to retrieve those dogs but it is extremely dangerous.
