While adult animals normally would be alert enough to move away when the car engine starts, younger animals may not do so.
Please, please check after starting your car engines.
Something extra that I do apart from checking under the car after starting the engine is to shut off the radio or CD when I am reversing the car out so that I can be alert to every tiny little sound. And always do a headcount if your animals are around your car to make sure they are accounted for and located AWAY from your car before you move your car.
In other words:
1. Make sure there are no animals under your car or near your car before you drive off.
2. Make sure your own animals are accounted for and you can see them AWAY from your car before you drive off and when you are driving off.
These two steps will help reduce the incidence of untoward accidents towards the furry ones.
