MAN SNEAKS 7 DOGS ABOARD HELICOPTER DURING DARING SEA RESCUE!

When Thayne Mortensen’s catamaran lost its mast in heavy seas off Western Australia, he was in mortal danger.

‘I was stuck in like a whirlpool with the breeze on my nose and the swell just coming at me, just huge white caps and it was pitching me up and down and around,” he told Yachting Monthly shortly after the incident.

But Thayne’s terror grew deeper when a rescue team arrived by helicopter and he was told that he would have to leave his 7 Jack Russell terriers behind.

So a quick-thinking Thayne, who had no intention of leaving his dogs behind to drown at sea, didn’t murmur a word of protest. He simply asked to grab his things and stuffed all 7 dogs into a duvet cover and gripped his makeshift sack with all his might as he ascended into the chopper.

‘If I happened to lose my life, so be it, but I hate to have the thought of leaving my animals behind to suffer.’

Way to go Thayne.

Animal Rescue Chase

The Great Animal Rescue Chase celebrates the art of animal rescue with a worldwide race to rescue one million. It’s a free event, open to all, and is perhaps the only global animal rescue event aimed at helping any animal in distress, anywhere in the world. Our ambition is to create a culture of enthusiasm and pride in animal activism. We believe in teaching, by example, that there is a hero in each of us just waiting to be unleashed. Empowered animal lovers can not only save lives, but build the momentum for powerful animal welfare reform.
