ACRES Christmas Enrichment
Tweet |
This Christmas, we at ACRES did a simple dietary enrichment for our Indian star tortoises and Lola, our African spurred tortoise. This enrichment was prepared and
given to our tortoises by Alianna, our international volunteer from New Zealand. The enrichments comprise of a ‘Christmas tree’ made from Hibiscus, Marigold, Tridax, Yellow bell flowers and leaves from Hibiscus, Mulberry and Sorel plants. The Christmas ‘presents’ are tiny pieces of carrot and pumpkin wrapped with blades of grass and what better way to top off our Christmas enrichment than by providing falling ‘snow flakes’ which are chopped up Asystasia flowers. Besides providing our tortoises with treats like pumpkin and carrots, elements of this dietary enrichment are also native to India like the Sorel leaves, Tridax and Asystasia flowers. It also challenges our tortoises to reach up to get the flowers, which they did after chomping on their wrapped gifts! Hope you guys enjoyed our ACRES Christmas enrichment and a Merry Merry Christmas to everyone out there from all of us at ACRES and a special thanks to all our volunteers who are helping us during this holiday season!!
