PRESS INVITE: LAUNCH OF BOYCOTT OF CASINOS IN THE UK OVER THE CAPTURE AND CONFINEMENT OF WILD – CAUGHT DOLPHINS

ACRES (Animal Concerns Research and Education Society) Singapore invites you to attend an event in London on the 21st September 2013, during which we will be launching the next phase of the ongoing “Save the World’s Saddest Dolphins” campaign (www.saddestdolphins.com): a global boycott of Genting Casinos.

Through the boycott, ACRES, together with supporting UK animal protection and conservation groups, aims to secure the freedom of the remaining 24 wild-caught dolphins bought by Resorts World Sentosa (which is wholly owned by Genting Singapore, a company of the Genting Group). So far, Genting have refused to respond to considerable public pressure to release the dolphins. Genting is one of the largest operators of casinos in the UK.

Between 2008 and 2009, Resorts World Sentosa damaged Singapore’s international reputation by buying 27 wild-caught Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphins from the Solomon Islands, from an area where this species is known to be severely depleted. Three of the dolphins have already died under their care. The remaining 24 are enduring a life of captivity, boredom, stress and frustration in small, barren pools at the aquarium operated by Resorts World.

It is widely acknowledged that dolphins do not do well in captivity. Many countries, including the UK, no longer have facilities keeping dolphins in captivity.

A dolphin mascot will be present during the event. Details about the boycott and ongoing campaign will be released during the event.
