Medical Subsidy For Percy, Rescued Kitten (Christine Lee Oi Pengs)

We have subsidised RM37 for Percy’s first bill of RM84 (RM10 was for Frontline which is not subsidised). This subsidy comes from all donors through our Medical Fund (RM17) and Berjaya Cares (RM20).

This bill covers wound dressing, antibiotics and an injection. There will be a few more bills, based on Christine’s write-up below.

Dear Dr Chan

I picked up an injured kitten tonight. t was standing outside the Old Town Medan Selera entrance meowing loudly as we were walking in. One leg is broken. If you look at the picture, you can see the bone, another foot is infected and swollen, the third foot is also infected. I

I have brought it back home. I will bring it to the vet tomorrow and hopefully, something can be done to help the kitten.

I hope the vet wont tell me to put the kitten to sleep.

Dear Dr Chan

Since writing to you i brought the kitten to see 2 other vets. One vet said that treating the kitten would take alot of time and money. It is not guaranteed that the hind leg will heal. So it would be better to put the kitten to sleep. The third vet said that the hind leg will heal. So I decided to put my faith in him.

The Dr cleaned up all 3 injured legs as well as the broken tail. its hind leg is dislocated and the bone exposed. He charged me RM30 for it. The front paw may have to be amputated at a later date. It was decided that it would be in the kitten’s best interest to leave it there for a week until its wounds granulates. Its bandages have to be changed daily. He gave me cheaper rates as it was a rescued cat.

I have been visiting the kitten almost on a daily basis to watch the dressing changed and look at the wounds. The hind leg is not doing as well as expected. Previously one bone was dislocated. Now it seems that all 3 bones are moving. There is also some pus. The wound is also not granulating well. The Dr said that he may put in metal stents to hold the bones together. The cost of surgery would be around RM600. With this development, the kitten will have to be under observation longer and boarded for a longer period.

So far, I have spent RM84 at the first clinic. I have also paid a deposit to present Dr, of RM200 for wound cleaning, boarding and antibiotics. The first week of treatment there cost RM212 (from last Sunday 11/8 to this Sunday 17/8), How do I claim for your fund? Do I submit the RM84 bill and claim for the bill weekly?

I think the bill will really add up, especially with two surgeries. It would be more than Rm1k. I dont think I have the means to absorb it myself.

We advised Christine to also apply to PetFinder.my as we have an arrangement with PetFinder.my to jointly subsidise bills that exceed RM1000.

However, based on Christine’s form, she has not applied to PetFinder for this bill of RM84. So we have subsidised it as per our policy.
