WOMAN TRUCKS IN FOOD TO SAVE STARVING HERDS

Night vision photography reveals one of the very hungry hippos eating the hay that has been trucked in to keep them alive. FULL STORY BELOW

It’s almost breakfast time here along the Turgwe River at the Save Valley Conservancy where conservationist Karen Paolillo is trying to keep animals alive in the once-green landscape that is quickly turning to dust. Due to a localized drought, the vegetation isn’t expected to return until December so Karen has two choices. She can either find a way to feed the herds of hippos and other grazers who live in this area or she can witness the starvation of the animals she’s spent decades trying to protect.

Through land invasions, violent uprisings, several bouts of malaria and times when she had little to eat herself, Karen has stood among the wildlife here as their sole champion. She’s a woman who has been knocked down more times than a prize fighter, but she refuses to leave these animals behind.

The Harmony Fund international animal rescue charity is organizing a food drive to halt the starvation here. We set up a super-easy and quick donation form for all to use.

Animal Rescue Chase

The Great Animal Rescue Chase celebrates the art of animal rescue with a worldwide race to rescue one million. It’s a free event, open to all, and is perhaps the only global animal rescue event aimed at helping any animal in distress, anywhere in the world. Our ambition is to create a culture of enthusiasm and pride in animal activism. We believe in teaching, by example, that there is a hero in each of us just waiting to be unleashed. Empowered animal lovers can not only save lives, but build the momentum for powerful animal welfare reform.
