Carlos the Cuban slider was found at a residential area with horrific injuries. He had multiple fractures on the carapace.

Cuban sliders are native to Cuba. Carlos is a victim of the illegal wildlife trade. He was probably abandoned and sustained injuries due to a fall as he tried to find his way around. The ACRES wildlife rescue team was called in to rescue Carlos.

It has been many months since he was rescued and Carlos has made a fantastic recovery, not only has he’s shell been repaired, we are pleased that his appetite is very good too.

Cuban sliders are closely related to Red-ear sliders who unlike Cuban sliders are allowed to be kept as pets. Nevertheless, turtles are not good pets as they need proper care. Their housing requirements will change as they become bigger and water quality is always of importance. These beautiful turtles are best left in the wild…where they belong.
