Welcome To Jurong Town Council

Jurong Town Council’s response to the stray dog that was found maimed by a trap near the forested area in Bukit Batok:

We refer to the post on AVAs facebook as well as feedback from members of the public regarding a stray dog that was found maimed by a trap near the forested area in Bukit Batok.

Over the past few months, following residents feedback on stray dogs, the Bukit Batok grassroots organizations have engaged several dog welfare groups such as Hope Dogs Rescue, and Action for Singapore Dogs (ASD) to resolve this issue. The grassroots in Bukit Batok together with Jurong Town Council have engaged Michael a professional dog trapper recommended by ASD. Michael is a trusted dog catcher with vast experience in handling stray dogs in a humane way. This is the reason why we engaged the services of Michael and his team. The intent was never to cull any animals but to trap them as humanely as possible and rehome these stray dogs to proper shelters.

Michael has been monitoring the situation all these while. Last week, he informed Town Council that there were traps destroyed and stolen. Through the ops, we managed to re-home 5 dogs (1 adult and 4 puppies).

Since Wednesday, we had stopped the trapping operation.

The dog that was trapped this morning is definitely not the work of Michael or any of the team members. The loop trap seen on the dog today is also different from what Michael deploys. His trap allows the dog to roam about as it is attached to a spring-like wire. Also from the look of the location, the venue is impossible for the trap to be set as the slope is hard to maneuver when bringing the dog down.

We do not condone such acts of animal cruelty and Michael has lodged a police report. The case is currently under investigation.

Thank you and hope the investigation can shed some light to the matter soon.

Warmest Regards,
