Medical Subsidy For Debbie, Rescued Dog (John Michael Goon Eugenes)

We have subsidised RM188.40 for this case (50% of the total claimable bill of RM376.80). As per our policy,we cannot subsidise the extra boarding of RM42. This subsidy comes from all donors through our Medical Fund (RM88.40) and Berjaya Cares (RM100).

According to John, the dog, Debbie, was brought to the vet and an abortion and subsequently, another surgery to correct an internal bleeding was performed and the bill was RM900. We have informed John that our policy does not allow us to subsidise this bill since it involved an abortion.

Debbie was then discharged and brought to a second vet where she was treated for constipation and this bill is RM418.80. We have verified this bill with the vet on the treatment administered, the condition of Debbie and our subsidy is only for this bill.

John is applying to PetFinder.my for the first bill of RM900.

Subject: Dogs Rescued – Assistance Needed
To: “chankahyein@gmail.com” <chankahyein@gmail.com>

Dear Dr Chan,My name is John and I have been rescuing stray dogs from the streets for almost 2 years. I just got know about your organisation through a vet All this time, I have been using my own savings for the rescued dogs.In March 2013, I rescued two friendly dogs (approximately 1 years ++) from the area of Putra Heights, Subang Jaya. After their vaccination, deworm and medical check-up, I sent them to a fosterer. The fosterer charged me RM15 per dog. The reason I can’t adopt them is due to the fact that I have 7 rescued dogs at home.

When one of my dogs passed away in April, I decided to foster both of them as I can’t bear the cost for the fostering. And I realised that one of the dog is pregnant which I immediately sent her to the vet for a check-up. After the check-up, the vet advised me to do an abortion for her. After the surgery, she was fine the first day. On the second day, the vet called to inform me that she had a serious internal bleeding which they had to undergo another surgery for her to stop the internal bleeding. Luckily, she recovered from the internal bleeding. She was at the vet for almost 2 weeks. When I thought everything was fine, the vet informed me that now she has problems with constipation. And he referred me to their main branch.

I decided to bring her to a second vet based a friend’s recommendation. This vet informed that her bone structure is sort of deformed. But he is not sure what is the main reason preventing her from constipating. But this vet did explained to me in detailed the sort treatment he recommends such as giving her luctose to ease her constipation as well as antibiotics for her lost of blood in the second surgery. On the second day, I visited her and the vet said that she is responding well to the treatment.

Fortunately, she is fine now and she is back at home till I get her a new home. I spoke to the vet about my expenses and he recommends me to write to you for the medical bill as your organisation do provide some sort of subsidy.

The bill from the first vet is RM900 and the bill from the second vet is RM418.80.

Please advise on this matter.

I can be contacted via my email address or cell number.

thanks

Best, John

Subject: Debbie Rescued Dog – Short Write up and Before and After Photos
To: Chan Kah Yein <chankahyein@gmail.com>

Dear Dr Chan,Thanks for the prompt reply. Attached is the photo of the dog before the treatment as well as the photo after the treatment. The following is the short write-up of the treatments given to Debbie at the second vet.

After her two surgery’s (abortion and internal bleeding) at the first vet, she was recovering slowly as she lost a lot of blood. The vet wanted to put to her to sleep but I refused as I strongly believe that she will recover. Fortunately, she recovered but still needed to be on anti-biotics. On 18 May 2013, I was supposed to bring her back and foster her till she recovers fully and put her up for adoption. But on that day itself, the vet told me that she had constipation problems and suggested that I sent her to their main branch.I decided to send her to the second vet based on a friend’s recommendation as this vet is very experienced with dogs. I sent her to this second vet on 21 May 2013, Monday. Based on this vet’s diagnosis, she is born deform, especially her bone structure. And the vet is not sure what is the root cause of the constipation problem even after doing x-rays. Hence, he suggested that we put her on Lactul Solution, enema, Laxapet gel to make the poo softer and easier for her to constipate. In addition, she needs to be on antibiotics due to her blood lost, ie, Baytril and Doxycycline. The plan was to put her for 1 week and see the progress. On the second day, I visited her and the vet said that her progress is good. When he took her for a walk, she managed to poo herself. And the vet said that I can bring her home on 23 May 2013 if she continued to poo herself, of course with the medication to help her softened her poo.

I took her back for fostering on 23 May 2013. And I have been monitoring her condition and it is getting better. She is eating perfectly well and also constipating herself. I have to feed her daily the medication: antibiotics, Lactul solution, Laxapet gel. And also I have to apply iodin on the surgery wound.

The contact of the Vet is as follows: (deetails provided)

I will post the original receipt and also the form to you tomorrow via post express.

I hope the above short write-up is sufficient. If you have any clarifications, please do not hesitate to contact me via my cell number.

thanks

Best, John
