Suara Rakyat, Suara Keramat!

It was the least I could do, as a citizen who is very concerned with the future of our younger generation, so despite the fears surrounding the Suara Rakyat, Suara Keramat event, I simply had to go.

What gave me the confidence of going is the trust in our elected representatives. They assured us that the event is legal and we trust our elected representatives would not mislead us. Isn’t it wonderful that we can put our full trust in them, knowing that they will look after us well?

The other thing, and this is more important, that gave me confidence is my trust in the rakyat. We are a peace-loving rakyat. We will assemble peacefully, and even as angry and disappointed as some people may be, we will never resort to any form of uncivilised behaviour. We are way above that. I trust my fellow rakyat.

And finally, the most important reason is that we must always stand for the truth. When we are on the side of truth and our intentions are pure, what is there to fear?

So, at 7pm, I drove down to the Federal Highway, and what was the first thing that greeted me?

This rainbow!

Beautiful and very befitting as a prelude to today’s event.

All would be well, I was doubly sure now.

This photo was shared by a friend (source: Asiaone). Apparently, the rainbow was over the Kelana Jaya stadium too.

And yes, it was beautiful.

As I reached Kelana Jaya, I parked along the bungalows and walked. I figured there would be no more parking anywhere nearer. It would be easier to get out too if I parked along the main road.

I must have walked several kilometres, but everyone was walking. Very happily too. All dressed in black. In one happy spirit of camaraderie. I even saw an old man dressed in black, walking with the aid of a walker, heading the same way. Some people were from out of town, and didn’t know the directions to the stadium.

We walked. In one spirit. Everyone was a friend.

It was already drizzling and everyone had their umbrellas up.

This event was not as colourful as the Kelana Jaya Grand Finale as that was a very happy and optimistic event, and everyone had come in colourful attire. This was a sombre event, we came dressed in black. Yet there was an air of optimism in it, if only for the spirit of oneness and unity which can never be broken no matter what happens. In fact, when the going gets tough, this spirit is further strengthened and fortified.

Yes, we were dressed in black, but we were not mourning anymore. We come, all ready to stand together, to be treated and recognised as Bangsa Malaysia.

All the terraces in the entire stadium was already overflowing. My Bersih-buddy, Nandhini, was also coming, but with her colleagues straight from work. I’m alone this time, but after Bersih 3.0, I think I know what to do.

Nandhini and I were on sms-communication throughout. She was seated at the terrace. I was in the middle of the field.

It was still early, but soon the stadium began to fill up.

The rain was certainly not a damper at all.

Come rain or shine, here we are!

More and more people poured into the stadium; Malaysians of various ages.

Mr Wong Chen, the elected parliamentarian of Kelana Jaya, opened the event.

The crowd roared!

The spirit was unbelievable. The energy was electrifying.

By now, the entire stadium had been filled. We all sat on the grass.

Unity and camaraderie in black!

Reminds me totally of Bersih.

The crowd roared, cheered and applauded every single speaker.

It was a night of slogan-chanting, but it came from the heart.

It was a night of renewed spirit after facing the darkest day in our political history.

A night of true Malaysian unity.

KitaAnak Malaysia, the emcee chanted, and the crowd roared in unison.

It just makes you so proud to be with our fellow Malaysians. It is something felt deep in the heart and being here together, just deepens this spirit.

Tonight is testimony to the fact that after 56 years of independence, the spirit of unity and oneness is already so deeply ingrained in us that in tough times when this spirit is challenged, our true colours are revealed – that we are truly united and we love our nation and her people deeply. We want to stand united, no matter what happens.

Practically every speaker stressed on unity. That’s already something we practise and live by and we want leaders who will respect this as our right and enhance it further.

The young – Not afraid to be heard.

The not-so-young – Coming together to ensure a better future for the young as we have already been there and we know there is definitely much room for improvement.

We all came with one voice.

We are Anak Malaysia.

The event ended around 11.30pm.

Leaving the stadium took quite some time, but understandably so, as the turnout was gargantuan! But here’s what’s amazing, everyone moved very orderly. No pushing, no shoving at all. The crowd was shoulder-to-shoulder, but very orderly. Even as we were sandwiched against each other, all trying to move out, everyone was polite, helpful and pleasant. Truly reminiscent of Bersih – now, this is where, again and again, we see the true Malaysian.

Getting home – now, this is another story altogether as the entire road was parked with cars! I was stuck but safe, in my car. But there was really nothing at all to worry about as everyone who had come to the event was a friend. Nandhini and her friends just left their cars and walked all the way to Subang Parade and took a taxi home! Soon, my husband came looking for me and my children came on two trips to bring me dinner and first-aid (just in case!), but they could not get to where I was. A long story cut short, I managed to reach home at 2am (and that’s thanks to my small and nippy car!) and only then did I have my dinner, but I am certainly not complaining at all.

Wouldn’t have missed this event for the world!

Suara Rakyat, Suara Keramat!

Whatever happens is supposed to happen, folks. There is a blessing to be found in whatever that happens. Perhaps this is the blessing – to forge an even stronger and deeper Anak Malaysia camaraderie amongst the peace-loving and truth-loving rakyat.
