Updates On 12th Oct 2012

With regards to the recent MPAJ dog-catching case – SPCA Selangor has been lobbying the local councils and DVS for a very long time regarding humane stray management. It is unrealistic for them to completely stop catching dogs, but we gave them guidelines (and practical demonstrations) on the humane methods to catch, transport dog and manage the pound. We have been providing food for several pounds on a regular basis, while waiting for them to get a ‘budget’ for dog food. We also have helped with disinfectants, tick wash, new cages, etc. However, the big changes need to come from the DVS and the local authorities in terms of long-term, sustainable dog control measures. Catching and killing has proven to be inhumane, expensive and not effective in curbing the number of strays! SPCA Selangor will attend the press conference organised by MDDB this Sunday, we hope there will finally be a breakthrough in the way the authorities handle the stray dog crisis.

SPCA Selangor

SPCA Selangor is an animal welfare organisation based in Ampang Jaya, Selangor. The aim of the SPCA is to protect defenseless animals and to alleviate their suffering. We receive more than 700 unwanted, homeless or abused animals every month. We provide an adoption program, investigation of cruelty reports, humane education, assistance to community animal caregivers and run a dedicated, low-cost spay/ neuter clinic. We also lobby the Government and local municipals for humane treatment of animals and harsher penalities for perpetrators of crimes against animals. Founded in 1958, SPCA is a well-respected and trusted Non-Profit Organisation. Over the years, the organisation has gained tremendous goodwill, recognition and support from animal lovers all over Malaysia
