What To Do BEFORE And AFTER Getting Your Pet Vaccinated.

Again it has come to our attention that many out there still think of vaccinations as a cure when their pets fall ill. We have stressed many times and obviously not enough that a vaccine shot will actually WORSEN or even KILL off an animal which is weak or already suffering from a viral infection because inside the vaccine is modified live viruses meant to trigger off the host animal's immune system to develop antibodies against the injected viruses which it recognizes as being 'foreigners'. Thus, a sick animal will face the danger of secondary infections which its already weakened immune system may not be able to cope with so that is why it is VERY important to make sure that your pet is in good health prior to being vaccinated and kept away from unvaccinated animals, strays or pets of unknown histories.
Prior to vaccination :-
1. Make sure pet is healthy. Usual signs will be solid and slightly moist faeces. Urine should be slightly yellowish but not a dark yellow or any other colour. Eyes and nose should be clear with no unusual discharges. Gums should be pinkish and appetite should be good. In cases of animals like dogs with dark coloured fur such as black, the gums will be heavily pigmented which means there'll be a lot of black so if you see a dark coloured animal with white gums, bring it to a vet for an examination IMMEDIATELY!
2. Animal is to be kept away from unvaccinated animals, strays or pets of unknown medical histories for a few weeks. This is because there is a chance that viruses in their early incubation stages may result in the animals not showing any symptoms or causing a negative result in test kits.
After vaccination :-
1. Again keep animal away from other animals for up to TWO weeks because upon vaccination, the immune system is under stress as it develops antibodies against the live viruses injected into it. These modified live viruses do NOT cause the animal to contract the diseases they are vaccinated against as long as the animal is healthy and has not been in contact with infected animals.
2. For those of you who allow your pets outside on their own, you MUST keep them indoors after vaccination and take point 1. VERY seriously because a newly vaccinated animal is at greater risk of contracting and becoming weakened by viral infections.
3. Do NOT bathe the animal for at least 3 to 4 days and if possible, up to a week, after vaccination because the immune system works best when the animal is kept warm. Also, most animals' temperature will rise a little after vaccination which means they're more susceptible to catching a cold and since a cold is a viral infection, viruses plus viruses mean greater stress on the animal.
