The Story Of Bobby (Megaa Velayuthans)

This is not my 16 year-old mixed poodle, Bobby, but Megaa Velayuthan’s cat, who is also named Bobby!

There may be something in the name “Bobby” as my Bobby (the dog) nurses baby kittens and Megaa’s Bobby also nurses kittens!

And both Bobbys are males, too!

Enjoy the following little story from Megaa:

Bobby came to us when he was about 2months old in Sept 2009. I found him from Petfinder, looking for a home, a college student who was leaving to UK took a good care of him. She found him loitering around her apartment so she took him in without her parent’s knowledge and kept him with her in her room (Mindyoushe lives with her parents) for about 1 month and responsibly started to look for a home for him. He was a bundle of joy when he came to us. Ididn’thave any issues with him except he loved my hubby’s mint plant and always made that pot as his poop pot..lol Anyway, Bobby will be turning 3 years old this June. Throughout the last 2 years, I have played foster mummy for a few kittens/cats and also havepersonallypicked up andre-homeda few. During that time Bobby was my fellow assistant. July last year my partner left to Melb and it left me alone to manage the home front. I had a few kittens to look after at that time. All I have to do is to tell Bobby that I need help from him to keep an eye on the kittens (As my balcony door is always open and afraid the kittens might have an accident). One day, I was preparing their food, Ididn’ttell Bobby to keep an eye on them..and the kittens (Mia,Tiggy Sr,Whitey and Curly) was wandering around the living room. At one point Tiggy went too close to the balcony grill. I saw Bobby jolted towards to the balcony…I knew something was not right. Bobby went to Tiggy and using his paw he pushed Tiggy away from the railing. I could go on with many incidents. There was once I was giving a bath to the kittens. Tiggy was the loudest when he was small. Whenever any of the kittens cry loud, Bobby would come inside the bathroom and would let out a meow and bite my hands, as if telling me “gently mom….you are hurting them”
I can’t remember how many times he would have done it. Even when I have to force feed them or give them medicine, if Bobby were to hear them cry, I would feel a sharp claw on my back or a bite on my elbow, it will be Bobby sitting there looking at me. Recently I have 3 little kittens without their mother came to me. They always cry, especially the smallest one. Whenever she cries Bobby would run to their room to check unlike other cats who goes on with their own business. After 2 weeks, as I was introducing the kittens to the rest and new toys, Bobby had his first face to face interaction with them. He kept sniffing the smallest kitten which was obviously the weakest and also was very afraid of big cats kept crying. She started to climb onto one of the cat tree, but stopped or rather stuck halfway as she could no longer hold on as one of adult cat just hissed at her. She just stuck there and cried, Ididn’thelp her as she must learn to either climb up or climb down as she was quite close to the floor. My Bobby moved towards her, looked and sniffed a little, he used his paw a if supporting her from below. hard to describe..as if he was trying to get her on top of the tree. The little one was so scared, but she did managed to climb up.
Yesterday was the most interesting part. I have been guiding the 3 little ones to drink water from their bowl. Everyday after a big meal, I would sit there, guide them to the bowl..dip their nose a bit with water..and I would even go on my knees pretending to be drinking..lol I have not seen them drinking at all. yesterday afternoon, as I was playing with the kittens on their room and Bobby was watching us not very far. The weakest kitten of all started crying. I just fed them a big meal so I just ignored her crying, kept stroking her and was playing with the other 2 kittens.she kept crying, I saw Bobby moved from his spot, came near that kitten, and pushed her towards her water bowl. I stayed still and watched as Bobby kept pushing her with his head and paw till she was close enough to the water bowl. Bobby sat and started drinking..then he would look at the kitten. That kitten would look at him..look at the bowl..then took a dip into the bowl.Actually, she drank the water. Bobby then looked at me and went back to his spot. That little kitten had a mouthful then came back to playing with the rest and she stopped crying. Icouldn’ttake any photos or videos as I was afraid any movement from me at that time could have spoilt the entire experience.
Bobby feeding Mia + Tiggy Sr (Both are 4 months old)Theirmom (the grey one) would often bite them if they went to suckle on her. Bobby used to spend a lot of time with Tiggy and his siblings. They were picked up from the streets when their owner (who owns a shop) wanted to get rid of them when the mom gave birth. This is the video which I managed to get which used to happen very frequently but whenever I come close Bobby would getupand run away.
2.One of my foster kittens is beginning to sit like Bobby That’s how Bobby would sit and quite a few times I caught him sittinglike this with one of his paw supporting him, Bobby would be sitting not very far from him but when the minute I take my camera, he would get up and walk away..lol he’s shy with the camera.
I wish I have more videos or photos to share which has Bobby seen helping them, only my eyes are the witness.Idon’tsee my other big cats even play with the new kittens, and is quite interesting to watch him make himself presentwhereverthe kittens are.I’m sure there are many more cats or dogs out there does the same. Sharing the stories as such would be a great read
