HOT news at 2.51pm
James Blackwell has just written to me to say the AnimalCare is the January winner of the Sunsuper Dreams Contest!!
Hooray!!!
Thank you, everyone, for your 4319 votes which made it possible!
More details later as I have to send them some photos first.
UPDATES at 4.00pm
Hi folks, what a ride this has been!
I was in the process of getting suitable photographs for the organisers as they wanted a selection for them to choose from (only one). Do you know, I have 70 folders of photos of animals we have helped? That’s a lot of photographs to sieve through!
I’m told we will get the cheque in 2-3 weeks’ time and then, depending on the exchange rate, we will know the final figure. It ought to be AUD5k (with the exchange rate, bank commission for transfer, etc.)
Currently, the results is still not updated on their website.
And as pledged, we are going to use part of this prize money to help the animals in the following organisations:
MDDB, KTAJ-Scratch, HOPE,Second Chance (formerly Paws Mission),Meiji’s Shelter,Papa Meow’s Shelter, Cherish Life,Kim’s Shelter,Imm’s Shelter,PAWS.
(the above are organisations/shelters that do not have corporate sponsors or large funds)
Our help would be in giving food donations, medical funding or disaster relief (not applicable in this period of time!).
UTAR Passion for the Animals was in the initial list, but they had just written to me to decline the offer as their society’s set-up is still not approved by their university. They are a group of university students doing TNRM in Kampar. We subsidised two of their medical cases recently. We’ll help them whenever they need funds later.
PASS’ representative informed me that they have no need for food or medical aid since they currently have no animals under them yet. They are only concentrating on their building fund. Since we have no provision for building aid, they too have declined a share.
We have also written to PAWS to ask that they accept a small token of sharing because even though they are not a no-kill shelter, PAWS’ manager, Mr Edward Lim, has helped us so much in these 3 years. We unanimously agree that the very least we could do is to share a small token of this prize money with the animals in their shelter. PAWS gracefully accepted and we are really happy!
PAWS has, on its own, offered us temporary shelter for our Klang rescues, our Selayang pup rescues, lower surrender fee for needy rescuers, helped us order animalfood at their rate for our food donations, provided free spay-neuter for Meiji and Kwai Chee’s animals, given us constant advice and consultation on matters which they have more experience in, etc. We are truly grateful for all the guidance, support and help.
We have also asked PetFinder.my if they would accept a token from us, but they have graciously declined (despite me asking twice!) because they explained that they have sufficient funds for their medical cases as it is based on direct donations from the public.
Last and certainly not least, a big thank you to the one person who made this possible – Mr James Blackwell! Thank you very much for nominating us for this contest and seeing to all the nitty gritties, right till the very end. Because of you, animal welfare work in Malaysia has been given recognition and the animals will certainly benefit from this publicity.
Little by little is the water jug filled.
