Hello animal-lovers, I am a biologist working on Tioman Island, Malaysia and I would like to appeal to qualified vets to help sterilize a colony of feral cats on the Island.
I am currently working in Melina Beach Resort, between the villages of Genting and Paya on the west coast of the island. We have a rapidly growing population of feral cats on the island. Disease seems to be widespread and we have observed many weak and mangy kittens around. The cat population is also devastating the local island wildlife, some of which is endemic to the island. Furthermore, this problem is not restricted to Genting, Melina and Paya alone but is actually widespread all over the island.
Currently we have a very small-scale operation which sterilized 8 cats last year. Our vet has been sterilizing the cats on a pro bono basis but she will be migrating this year, hence we are looking for a new vet to help.
If you would like to help us and the animals on Tioman Island, please email Ling at qiaoling@ecofieldtrips.com
Any donations of cat food, cages and pet carriers are welcomed too.
Thank you!
Ling
