Hi, I actually tak berapa faham kenapa ramai orang cakap kesian, and give them a chance to have babies....i have yet to meet a cat that talks and able to express their desire to have babies...I fikir, oleh kerena manusia adalah species yang boleh berfikir dan membuat keputusan secara rasional, kita juga bertanggungjawab untuk menjaga hal ehwal dan kesihatan binatang kita...Maybe yang kesian kucing tak beranak tu patut tanya diri kita, kalau kucing tu beranak sekali 5 ekor, adakah kita sanggup untuk jaga 5 ekor sekali dgn penuh kasih sayang, vaccination, deworming, mknan, litter etc sampai 15-20 years? Hmm...tak ramai...tau2 ada kat listing petfinder adoption for free....:(
Adleen,if you were in my shoes or other rescuers then u know why we were angry abt owner not neutering their pets. Selalu ckp kesian tp org yg ckp kesian ni,ada ke mereka akan bertanggungjawab sepenuhnya nak jaga kucing yg byk2 ni?? itu blm lg kes yowling all day and nite klu time musim mengawan yg sah sah menganggu keamanan kejiranan.lama2 org2 ramai disekeliling pun bosan dgn kucing yg pancut sana sini, bergaduh sana sini bising bukan main, mengeow satu malaya blh dengar coz nak mengawan. last2 jln senang, curah air panas atau gelek dgn keta kucing2 yg dah jd nuisance kpd society because tak dineuter. if you really care abt your cats, u shud neuter them right away.
if u really CARE abt this cats, after u neuter, you are able to pick up more abandon cats and give them a new home and tender loving care. klu dlm tgn u kucing dah bersusun mana u ada ruang utk kucing2 yg terbiar?? kucing2 yg terbiar biasanya bertuan tp tak dineuter,rayau2 sana sini, cari pasangan, finally hilang. Fikir fikirlah sendiri.Don't humanise the cats. Mereka bertindak mengikut instint not like human,we have brain and we can think what is wrong & right.
Adleen, you may not know this, but there are people who actually dumped their long hair cats, when they no longer or can't afford to care for them anymore.
Anyway, I'd like to say this once and for all: To those who emailed me, please do not email me saying you'd like to take one or two cats. Please just call the number given, and ask for Jimmy. You will be asked certain questions to ensure you're the right person to care for these long hairs.
And one more thing, there are more than 20 short hair cats for adoption, but everyone is asking for these long hairs only. As such, those who adopt the short hair cats will be given a preference to adopt the long hair ones.
Blackie007, you have one DSH tabby, and a Maine Coon Cat. Tell us, how many hours a week do you spend on grooming YinYin to keep her coat in good shape? And do you also need to take her for professional grooming? How often? Is it expensive?
I'm not prying into your personal life :-), but I wonder if many people understand how much time and money is required to care for long-haired cats. I think it would be a good idea to let PetFinder members know what to expect before they adopt or buy one for the first time.
How many hours a week do I spend grooming Yin Yin? Well, I wouldn't know, since I'm not too good with maths, but I have to comb & brush her at least once a day. That takes about 10 mins. And I say at least once a day. If she gets her coat tangled up again, which happens quite often when she plays, then it's combing & brushing time again. Otherwise, the coat gets matted and it'll be very painful for the cat. Not to mention, you'll have to snip off her coat and turn her into a semi-short hair cat when that happens!
I don't take her for professional grooming as it costs at least RM80 (if the coat is in good condition and not matted) and can get as high as RM150, depending on the condition of your cat and how much work is needed.
I did the grooming myself as I was, ahem, taught by the person who gifted her to me. He's also a cat show groomer and he showed me how to groom her correctly.
But it takes about 2 to 3 hours to groom her, meaning, bathe her, blow dry, and then comb. Whereas it took half an hour or so to groom my short hair tabby.
Charlene,I take 15 minutes to shower in the morniong and another 15 to get ready. Long hair cat need more time for grooming than me.heheheehhe!! so I pass long hair cat :)
Kak June, That doesnt include the buckets of sweat while bathing and grooming the cat! And...the shampoo cost especially for show grooming hehehehe.. Mmg kalau kita!! Mummynya serabai, the kucings excellent condition!! hahahahha!
ajoy8 & xotica19: Yes, there are 2 left. I believe I had already posted the necessary info somewhere here. However, adoption is temporarily halted due to Jimmy being overseas at the moment. Try calling on the 27th.
June: Yeah, and 2 hours is if the cat is co-operating with you. It's not easy to wash a long hair cat or dry it. It's fur is so thick and long, and you have to be sure it's thoroughly rinsed. You may think it's rinsed thoroughly, but it may not be, and the cat will end up scratching itself & removing clumps of its fur in the process.
Fareen: Yup, the cost of shampoo for a long hair cat is expensive. You can't simply use the same shampoo you use on the DSH as the long hair has different requirements, unless you don't mind your cat looking like some balding hair bristle! And I agree with you about the buckets of sweat while you bathe them....it's more tiring than mopping an entire house.
Blackie : Yea! I sweat like I just ran a 5km marathon when I'm bathing my sophie! hahaha. Good way to lose 1kg water weight tho! :P Like you I have one longhair and one shorthair and the difference is soo vast! Stimes when I'm grooming Sophie I go 'what the hell have i gotten myself into?' hahaha. When when I see her all fluffy, I feel quite satisfied la. Although I have to take my own shower rite after that! hehehe.
