Mama Mia was previously living in the outdoor patio of a restaurant with her two kittens, Spaghetti and Meatball. My plan was to TNR them, but things went awry while I was out of town, and my friend found her limping and bleeding after she had been bitten by a dog (the bite mark was too large to be a cat) on Friday, 6 July.
My friend rushed Mama Mia to the vet that night where she had surgery to suture the wound. She seems to have suffered spinal damage and couldn't use her hind legs. When I picked her up from the vet on Thursday, 12 July, she also appeared to be having issues expressing both her bladder and her bowels so I had to learn how to do this manually at regular intervals.
I also took her to an animal physiotherapist on Thursday, 19 July, which was very helpful. The physiotherapist thought that her left leg may stay permanently hyperextended as seen in the photos but that she may slowly regain control of her right leg with regular stretching.
It's now been a bit over three weeks since her second rescue/surgery and she's been doing much better. She's eating really well, expressing her bladder fully, though she still needs help with her bowels. She is starting to stand up with her hyperextended leg up against the wall while she eats. I stretch her right leg every day and tell her we are going to fight through this together. She now manages to shuffle towards me, purring loudly, whenever I walk in the room.
Mama Mia has had a rough time of life until now, but I am determined to give her the best quality of life that she deserves.
The total bill cost us over RM 3,500. Thank you in advance for all your kind donations for Mama Mia and her long recovery!
