15 February 2014 update: Toby has been adopted by Emily of Ser Kembangan after passing the interviews. Thank you for everybody's interest in Toby. : )
Toby was found on the streets on September 2013 but to date, no one has claimed him (almost 2 months listed in petfinder.my's lost & found section) and he's believed to be dumped so he's now up for adoption.
- He has been scanned for microchip but has none in him.
- He has been applied with the monthly Revolution spot-on to protect against ticks/fleas/ear mites/heartworms/intestinal worms.
- he has been vaccinated on 11 October 2013.
- He has had a full blood test on 16 December 2013 at a cost of RM145 and the blood test shows that he is normal and has no tick fever which saves a high treatment cost for the adopter.
- He had a heartworm test for RM60 and the good news is that the test shows that he's heartworm-free so the adopter would be already potentially save more than RM1,000 in treatment.
- He's neutered on 17 December 2013 at a cost of RM115.
- His weight as of 17 December 2013 is 5.30kg.
- Please note that he can bark loudly so he's a good watchdog.
- He can get along with other dogs as long as they can get along with him. However, he's not ok with cats. He has high confidence of himself especially when encountering other dogs and is very friendly to all humans as he would jump up at them in greeting.
- He know basic commands to sit and give hand. He would come back if called.
- He pees and poo on the road. He would squat to pee on the ground instead of marking on a wall, car's tyre, etc.
- He used to have a skin itchness issue so he sometimes like to chew his paws or scratch himself and had to wear a v-cone. He was regularly bathed with Malasep shampoo at the vet's advice and we fed him with fish oil and pet-safe garlic and flaxseed supplements. As of 20 January 2014, his itchness problem is 90% resolved! :)
Main adoption conditions are:
1) The adopter must be a Malaysian. Our preference is for an adopter in the Klang Valley for logistical reasons.
2) The adopter must be active on Facebook so that we can get pictorial updates on him and forgo the need for house visits to check on him.
3) The adopter must exercise Toby by taking him out for walks and toileting twice a day.
4) The adopter must be financially willing to provide for a high-maintenance dog especially premium food and regular grooming. The adopter must provide the basic preventive dog care such as the yearly vaccination and monthly spot-on application (Revolution is recommended) to prevent ticks/fleas/heartworms.
5) The dog must be fed with proper premium dog dry food and no wet food or food scraps. Dry kibbles helps 'brush' his teeth and and premium dog food will maintain his fur condition.
6) Toby must be kept indoors due to his small size. He has the tendency to squeeze through grill doors and gate openings so the adopter's home must be securely fenced up to prevent a small dog like Toby from running outside.
7) The adoption fee of RM320 must be paid in full and it only covers the costs of his neutering and blood tests. His adoption fee would to help the next needy furkid.
8) Adopt from location at Sunsuria Avenue, Kota Damansara.
If you're interested to adopt Toby, please sent a message (via petfinder.my) and please share about yourself (are you a student/working? Malaysian/expatriate?), your place (living in Klang Valley or outstation? Condo/landed house? rented/owned? landlord allows pets? Living with family/friends? Do they agree to pets? Keeping dog indoor/outdoor? Home is small-dog escape-proof?) and your dog ownership experience (know about ticks and heartworm? Who will actually take care of your dog? Would you walk/exercise him? What would you feed him? Do you have any dogs now and in the past? What happened to the past dogs?). Please expect an interview by e-mail.
Any juvenile-type e-mails without providing the necessary details (ie tell me about yourself, your place and dog ownership experience) required will be not be replied. Please don't just provide a phone number because I won't call/sms and prefer to correspond by e-mail first.
My apologies if the above questions seem to be intrusive or offensive in any way but we are looking for a truly loving and responsible adopter for Toby. All this resulted from our experience in rescuing and rehoming dogs. Please note that there is no right or wrong answers as we just wish to learn more about Toby's potential adopter before making the decision. Thanks.
