One of my family member is diagnosed with a serious illness and just couldn't keep dogs at home anymore, so we have to surrender Odie here for adoption before going to our last choice - spca :(

Odie is currently blind but he is still very healthy. We are hoping someone could give him the love, patience and care as he really needs a lot of attention. Odie is grass-trained (meaning only do his business at grass area, must take him out twice a day to let him do his business) and he love to stay indoor. He likes to be pampered and he has a big appetite to eat all kinds of food just like human! (Vegetables or even durians!) Odie knows a few tricks like sitting, lying down, hand, roll over, but as he is quite old so will need alot of patience to really ask him to do tricks. Odie is originally born and raised at Melbourne with my sister but set place at malaysia when my sister completed her studies over there.

I have posted some of his current photo (white eye) and old photo when he was still young and not blind also a video taken few years back.

Please don't let him go to spca :(

Perhaps can you reconsider keeping odie... It's not easy for a blind dog to get used to new home since he has been with you for 13 years already. Going to a new home might stress him out so much.....hope u can reconsider.... Odie only have you in his world...:))

I really do not wish to be rude and absolutely wish you the best with your search but the thought process here is way off base.

Finding an adopter for a 13 year old, blind dog will be a monumental challenge. Additionally, your dog is not spayed/neutered and may end up at the hands of a breeder posing as an animal lover. What kind of treatment do you think a blind, 13 year old dog will get if this happens?

Sending to the RSPCA is a cop out. They will put the dog to sleep as he will not be seen as adoptable. You are basically shifting your responsibilities as an owner onto a charity group. If you cannot find suitable adopter, the least cruel way out is to put the dog to sleep humanely. That is responsible pet ownership and part of life. Death is part of life.

At least Odie will have you to comfort him in his last minutes than a complete stranger at the spca. You at least owe him this for the years of companionship he has offered you and the most humane way forward.

Certainly wish a happy outcome for Odie.

i had a 4 years old leukaemia patient at home and what me and my family did is for her best to stay healthy. i have also given my 2 other dogs to my bf to take care and thankfully i have found a closed friend who is willing to take care odie on our behalf. please do not judge me on how i treat my pets before knowing what really happened. thanks for all the comments.

Jennijane, i know it's a difficult time for everyone when someone in the family is down with some illnesses. I also believe, it all depends on the rest of the family members whether they want to make a situation best for the ill member as well for Odie. The rest of the family is able and healthy and can do their best to keep the environment in the house clean and hygiene for everyone. I believe that human doctors sometime over exagerate situations. In more developed countries, dogs are allowed into hospitals for patients with sickness. They are called "therapy dogs". If bringing a dog into a hospital will cause "death" to people who are sick, i guess the hospital would not have allowed it to happen. The dogs are there to give hope and unconditional love to the patients. What you and your family members who are healthy and able can do is to ensure that the patient is not in contact with the dog and keep the house clean at all times. I know it's a difficult time and emotions are running high right now. Please give it some time, let the heart calm down and then the head can think clearer and see better. And since u are posting on petfinder and your dog is not neutered, there is a very high chance some bad breeders will willingly come and adopt Odie because he will be cage for the rest of his remaining life in a small cage and used solely for breeding purposes & profit making. Maybe a close family member who has another household can take him in?
