Update 11/2/12 :
After months of treatment n medications, Baby has been tested NEGATIVE for heartworm on 4/2/12 and hence she was given the heartworm prevention jap. She is now ready to be rehomed, if any1 would like to adopt her, pls contact me :)
Update 10/12/11 :
Baby is now into her 3rd week medication after the 2nd heartworm injection treatment and she is doing fine. She would be tested again after another 3 weeks to ensure all heartworms are cleared. Soon she can be rehomed. She can be put on leashed and can be a loving pet if given a chance. She is small (ard 9kg) and easy to take care of. If you are interested to adopt her, pls contact me.
Update 17/10/11 :
Baby has taken the 1st heartworm drug injection on 10/10/11 after being checked by vet. Vet has prescribed 6 weeks of medication before she can take her 2nd injection treatment. Baby will need to be checked again after 4 weeks in order for vet to monitor her condition.
Update 4/10/11 :
Baby is now in her 3rd week of medication b4 her 1st heartworm drug injection this weekend. Baby's complete blood count report is out today and her platelet is very low (57, normal : 200). Vet has ruled that it is due to tick fever which also affected other dogs in my workplace). Vet has also rechecked again n ruled that she has murmur (hole in heart) on the left part of her lungs.
Also she must be checked again this weekend and her 1st treatment of heartworm drug must be postponed until she is fit enough for it.
Baby is 1 of the strays which I have been feeding since she was a pup and is already put on PetFinder for adoption since then.
Few wks ago, Baby was coughing (sounds like choking/dry cough) for days n occasionally vommitting. I have brought her to Dr Edmund on 10th Sept. She was tested heartworm positive. Her heartbeat sound which is `blup', normal heartbeat sound is `doop'. This indicates that her lungs may have expanded due to the heartworm or possible murmur (hole in heart). Vet has classed as stage 2-3 of heartworm. In order to avoid complications, Baby must be confined n take medications for a month b4 she can be treated with the 1st heartworm injection and the 2nd heartworm injections in Nov.
Therefore now I'm appealing to the public here to get some donations for Baby's treatment. The costs to treat Baby is estimated RM1000, which will include the following :
1)X-ray to check how much the lungs have expanded, full bloodwork.
2)Full Heartworm treatment injections (once in Oct n twice in Nov)
3)Heart medications, steroid and antibiotics.
3)Follow-up medications n tests.
Please HELP this young dog to have a chance to fight this disease n to have a chance to live on. If Baby is not treated, she would collapsed 1 day soon n die.
Thank you.
