yinchin   Apr 3rd 2011 at 10:03AM hi scoopy, different people have different view on this, and she doesn't show that she is suffering from that, in fact she always fell asleep when i change the stick for her, so i assume that this doesn't cause any uncomfortable =)

ManekiNeko   Apr 3rd 2011 at 1:56PM Carlchong, ear-cropping involves cutting a portion of the dogs ear off. If this is not done by a veterinarian with proper anaesthesia, it is exceedingly painful, just as it would be to cut part of your own ear off. In fact, in most European countries and Australia, ear-cropping and tail-docking are ILLEGAL, even for vets to perform. Yinchin, did you (or your vet) cut this pup's ears, or just tape them to encourage them to stay upright? Just curious... Regardless, she's a cute puppy, and I also hope you find her a loving permanent home!

yinchin   Apr 3rd 2011 at 4:09PM For clarification, I NEVER crop Baby Fortune's ears. It just stood up NATURALLY by itself when she grows. She is so cute with her big standing ears now =) The one who got cropped ear is her friend, another doberman puppy of mine (Luna) which appeared in the last photo. I have done my research, and of course Luna was cropped properly by qualified vet. Whether to crop a doberman is very subjective: like whether to spay your pet. Should you let the pet produce more strays than you can handle or do a proper operation to help reduce them, as what we are doing now?

ManekiNeko   Apr 3rd 2011 at 8:08PM Hi, Yin Chin -- honestly, it didn't look like you'd cropped Baby Fortune's ears, but the comments were confusing. Personally, I'm not passionate about the issue one way or the other, provided a vet does the work under proper conditions. I just notice an alarming trend of people -- usually young men -- who think dogs look more aggressive or more cool with cropped ears, docked tails, or both. Unlike you, they're not doing research nor going to vets -- they are simply taking up knives and scissors and doing the cutting themselves. THIS is the sort of thing that makes me react sharply when I see people saying that dogs look more "cool" with cropped ears. :-( Again, kudos for your efforts to re-home Baby Fortune and all the kitties you've rescued!
